The Poems of Yunus Emre Translated into Kazakh

Yunus Emre Anthology, a book contributed by young Kazakh poets to the Kazakh language, met with its readers.

The book prepared through the collaboration of Yunus Emre Institute and Kazakhstan Union of Authors was published this year on the occasion that 2021 was included by UNESCO in the List of Commemorations and Anniversaries and declared by the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey as the Year of Yunus Emre and Turkish Language since it was the 700th death anniversary of Yunus Emre, one of the most important poets of Turkish language.

Yunus Emre Anthology of Prof. Erdoğan Boz, consisting of two volumes, were poeticized by 19 young Kazakh poets. The book was translated by Dr. Almagül Isina.

 

"MANY WORDS IN THE POEMS CAN ALSO BE FOUND IN TODAY'S KAZAKH LANGUAGE"

In her statement, Dr. Isina mentioned that the translations of a total of 72 Yunus Emre poems were included in the book and said, "It was emphasized that the poems of Yunus Emre, which include plain yet deep meanings, were translated faithful to originals. The words that seem plain on the outside bear great meanings within. It was not hard to find equivalents for these words as many words in the original poems are maintained in today's Kazakh language. Therefore, the book includes both the poems translated into Kazakh language and the originals by Yunus from the 13th century."

"WE WANTED TO SEE THE PERSPECTIVE OF YOUTH IN YUNUS EMRE'S POEMS"

Isina mentioned that 1000 copies of the book were printed and that they planned to donate the books to the relevant institutions and organizations, starting with the libraries and universities in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan Union of Authors Nur-Sultan Branch Director Dauletkerey Kapuly mentioned that they ensured the participation of 19 young poets who specialized in literary translation in the said project in a unison.

Kapuly reminded that Yunus Emre's poems were previously translated by well-known poets in his country and said, "This time, we wanted the see the perspective of youth in Yunus Emre's poems."
