Workshop on Media Literacy and Turkish in the Digital Age Held in Morocco

Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) and Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) organized the fifth “Workshop on Media Literacy and Turkish in the Digital Age” in Casablanca, Morocco.

The workshop, which was held in a hotel in Casablanca on April, 23rd, was attended by RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin, Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş, Turkey’s Ambassador to Rabat Ahmet Aydın Doğan, RTÜK Member İlhan Taşçı, Rabat Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Ensar Fırat, artist Bager Akbay and many guests.

Yunus Emre Institute President Ateş celebrated the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day in his speech.

Ateş said, “We have come to you from Turkey with an ageless and never-ending gift, which is knowledge and awareness. In the modern age, there is a very serious problem and an opportunity before us, technology. Therefore, we are holding this workshop in different parts of the world, which was developed by the two institutions RTÜK for the media part and for the cultural exchange and bonding part of by Yunus Emre Institute. Today, we would like to present this gift to you.’’

 

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE RTÜK  HAS INCREASED

RTÜK President Şahin said, “With the availability of the internet in the digital age, it is inevitable that the square will transform with smart devices. The younger generation has become unable to live without new media tools.  Of course, digitalization has brought problems with it. At this point, the issue of media literacy, which is the responsibility and field of RTÜK, has also become important.

Emphasizing that RTÜK carries out many studies to protect younger generations from the harmful content of the media, Şahin said that they were trying to raise awareness in this field not only in Turkey but also abroad.

In the workshop, where Turkey’s Ambassador to Rabat Doğan also gave a speech, artist Bager Akbay made a presentation titled “Algorithmic Art’’.

Akbay pointed out the importance of code software in his presentation and said, “We can express ourselves through software in the digital age. For this reason, I invite everyone to learn how to code.’’

In the panel part of the workshop, RTÜK Member Taşçı and Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Adnan Altun made speeches.

THE EFFECTS OF METAVERSE WERE ALSO DISCUSSED AT THE WORKSHOP

In the panel moderated by RTÜK Vice President İbrahim Uslu, Yunus Emre Institute Cultural Diplomacy Academy Coordinator Dr. Melih Barut made a presentation titled “metaverse effect’’.

Yunus Emre Institute President Ateş made the following statement after the workshop:

“There is an extraordinary amount of interest. There are two reasons for this; firstly, there are many people who learn Turkish through Yunus Emre Institute. Secondly, of course, it is the digital age, but how to deal with the digital age, how to create content in the digital age, how to become an artist, we brought important experts from Turkey on these issues, so Moroccan youth have a very serious interest. On the one hand, we carry our language, together with our culture, the contents originating from our culture to the world.

RTÜK President Şahin stated that their programs were very productive and said, “Our Ambassador Ahmet Aydın Doğan’s team also gave us lots of support, and we continue this program with the Yunus Emre Institute Rabat Turkish Cultural Center. We are very pleased. Because not only those who learn Turkish and give importance to Turkey but also the Turkish people living here have a very close interest. In the coming period, we will continue to hold this workshop in more detail in different countries.’’

The workshop, in which works from Turkish Sufi and Andalusian music and hymns were sung by Moroccan artist Yusuf Lebib, ended with an iftar.
