Yunus Emre and Meister Eckhart Commemorated Together [1]
Yunus Emre Institute in Cologne organized an event in the same period to commemorate our mystic and folk poet Yunus Emre and German theologian Meister Eckhart, who shed light on the society and the world with their thoughts. At the event, the thoughts of two personalities on the concept of love were discussed.
Yunus Emre and Meister Eckhart were commemorated together in the online event organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Cologne within the scope of 2021 Yunus Emre Year. The event on love in Islamic and Christian mysticism was held in cooperation with the Cologne-Istanbul Sister City Association.
Moderated by İpek Sirena Krutsch, the event was attended by Cologne University Faculty Member and Thomas Institute President Prof. Dr. Andreas Speer and Professor of the University of Vienna Dr. Abdullah Takım was the guest.
The life of our sufi and folk poet Yunus Emre and German theologian Meister Eckhart, who lived in the same period (13th-14th century), was mentioned in the event. At the event, which took place on June 18, 2021, the views of two personalities on the concept of love were discussed. In general, light was shed on the Islamic and Christian mysticism tradition.
While speaking about Eckhart's understanding of love, Prof. Dr. Speer said that important personalities from different cultures in history shed light on humanity with similar views without knowing each other. Prof. Dr. Takım emphasized that Yunus Emre's Turkish poems are an important source that brings nations and histories closer together.
