"April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day" was celebrated with the event organized under the auspices of the Turkish Embassy in Tunisia, in cooperation with International Tunisia Maarif Schools, Tunisia Yunus Emre Institute and THY.

Türkiye's Ambassador to Tunisia Ahmet Misbah Demircan, who made the opening speech, as well as representatives of Turkish institutions in Tunisia, Turks living in Tunisia and parents of students studying at Tunisia Maarif Foundation Schools attended to the event held at the Turkish Embassy in Tunisia on April 22, 2023.

At the event, the leaders of our future were handed over to the children on behalf of the embassy authorities in Tunisia, as is the case every year on April 23 in Turkey.

While Ambassador Demircan handed over his office to Efe Mersin as his representative, the office of Chief Undersecretary Belgin Ergüneş was handed over to Nermin Nedret Turan,  the office of Military Attaché Colonel Aydın Bayar was handed over to Abdullah Taha Yurduseven, the office of Culture and Tourism Attaché Yunus Düzcü was handed over to Kerem Ersoy, and Ahmet Düzcü took over the position of Commercial Attaché Emre Semiz.

After the students studying at Turkish Maarif Schools took over the positions at the Turkish Embassy as representatives, at the meeting held under the chairmanship of representative Ambassador Efe Mersin on the occasion of April 23 Sovereignty and Children's Day, the wish that the children's day, which Atatürk presented to all the children of the world, would bring peace was emphasized.

Speaking about the event, "April 23 Sovereignty and Children's Day is one of the holidays that we attach great importance to. Because we celebrate the coming of the Republic to Türkiye. On April 23, 1920, when a great change took place in our country, the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, which was the biggest step taken towards the Republic, was opened. With democracy the people in Türkiye participated in the administration by electing administrators through the ballot box. The reason why we celebrate Children's Day on the same day is that our children are our future. Our children will take part in our future as administrators to shape our future," Ambassador Demircan said.

Emphasizing the importance of taking care of children and working to broaden their horizons, Demircan continued his words as follows:

"The leaders of our future are children, and we handed over our office to them here as a representative, just like every year on April 23 in Turkey. Such events pave the way for the recognition of Türkiye in Tunisia and cultural cooperation between the two countries. At the same time, they are a gift to all the children of the world. During the celebrations held in our country on this holiday, children from all over the world participate in the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day celebrations held in the capital Ankara."
