Brussels Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, Brussels Academy for Turkish Oud and Brussels Palace of Fine Arts (Bozar) collaborated to bring together two world-famous Turkish oud virtuosos on the same stage and with music lovers in Brussels.

The event where the best sounds of Turkish music came together, was widely attended by oud and Turkish music enthusiasts.

Master Necati Çelik and Yurdal Yokcan introduced the solo instrument oud with all its aspects throughout the day, as part of “Brussels Oud Day”.

The event held in Bozar on the occasion of the opening of Brussels Academy for Turkish Oud, took start with the mode seminar by Necati Çelik. Çelik stated that the biggest difference between Western music and Traditional Turkish music is modes. As there are two types of tonalities (major-minor) in Western music theoretically and technically, there are a total of 500 combined modes in Turkish music 13 being plain.

Necati Çelik shared with the audience six modes, çargâh, kürdi, buselik, rast, uşşak, technically and demonstrated the performance of these modes.

Event continued with artists' “master classes” aimed at oud students, and ended with the performance of Oud Masters Necati Çelik and Yurdal Tokcan.

Founder of Brussels Academy for Turkish Oud Tristan Driessent stated that artists in the West take interest in Eastern music, and Flemish composers Wim Hendirc and Pascale Dusapin included Eastern melodies in their works. Brussels Yunus Emre Enstitüsü Director Rahmi Göktaş expressed their appreciation in the interest oud enthusiasts' took in the event and they wish to organise “Turkish Oud Days” with Brussels Academy for Turkish Oud annually.
