The First Traditional Archery Club in Kosovo Established at Prizren

The first traditional archery club was established in the city of Prizren, in southwestern Kosovo. 

Under the coordination of Nevron Skenderi and Dijedona Elezi, representatives of the Kosovo Young Scouts Union, with the support of Yunus Emre Institute, traditional Turkish Archery courses were started for the first time in June 2021. Traditional Turkish archery attracted great attention thanks to the participants from all age groups.

In his statement regarding them subject, Nevron Skenderi emphasized that they started their efforts for establishing a proper archery club in order to carry Traditional Turkish Archery courses further both in Kosovo and later in international competitions.

Skenderi stated that they started their efforts for establishing a proper archery club in order to carry Traditional Turkish Archery courses further both in Kosovo and later in international competitions.

Noting that their application to the Kosovo Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Innovation was accepted, Skenderi said that for the first time in the country, a Traditional Archery Club License was issued and delivered to them.

Skenderi said, “We are happy. I would like to express my gratitude to the Yunus Emre Institute and the Archers Foundation for their support and initiative.

“THIS INITIATIVE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO RAISING HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY”

Mehmet Ülker, the Coordinator of the Turkish Cultural Centers of Yunus Emre Institute in Kosovo, described the establishment of the first sports club to organize traditional Turkish Archery courses in Kosovo as a development of historical importance.

Ülker emphasized that this initiative will contribute both to educating athletes in the fields of Turkish archery, and representing Kosovo in national and international competitions. He also added:

“This initiative will contribute to raising healthy individuals both physically and mentally. In that vein, this sports club presents a multi-dimensional and unique example for cultural and development approaches. Nevron Skenderi and Dijedona Elezi, who are the founders of the establishment of this club, attended basic and educational traditional Turkish archery trainings at the Archers Foundation facilities in Turkey with the support of Yunus Emre Institute. I congratulate them for this meaningful initiative and their success. I fully believe that this club will contribute to creating a spirit, a companion and being united in the masses."
