“July 15th Coup Attempt and Democracy Victory of Turkey” Exhibition in Beirut

The exhibition titled “July 15th Coup Attempt and Democracy Victory of Turkey” was opened in Beirut Yunus Emre Enstitüsü by collaboration of Beirut Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, AA and TİKA under the auspices of Turkish Embassy to Beirut.

Featuring  photographs through the lenses of AA journalists, the exhibition titled “July 15th Coup Attempt and Democracy Victory of Turkey” drew considerable attention. The opening was attended by diplomats in Turkish Embassy to Beirut, Anadolu Agency Middle East News Editor Ömer Bulut Yüzgüleç, TİKA Beirut Office Coordinator Serhat Küçükkurt as well as representatives of local and international media organizations in Beirut, academicians, political and religious figures and Lebanese guests.

Turkish Ambassador to Beirut Çağatay Erciyes thanked AA for photographs in the exhibition in a statement he made to AA journalist and said, “Sometimes photographs are more powerful than words. I think this exhibition serves to this purpose: to better explain July 15th Coup Attempt.”

Marking that exhibition attracted intense interest and it has achieved its goal, Erciyes announced that the exhibition will also be organised in other cities in Lebanon as Tripoli and Saida.

Erşat Hürmüzlü, Middle East Head Consultant to 11th Turkish President Abdullah Gül, was in Lebanon for a conference, and congratulating AA, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Turkish Embassy to Beirut for the exhibition, he spoke as follows: “A photo may be more effective than five-ten books. The photos selected here are truly informative. This exhibition explains well to Lebanese people what happened in Turkey on July 15th and how Turkish nation claimed democracy.”

Hürmüzlü underlining that coup attempt must be explained whenever possible, said, “There are some systems which use tanks against the people. In our system, people faced the tanks. The people crossed over and claimed democracy repelling such a coup attempt.”

The exhibition features short films and videos depicting the night of July 15th and its aftermath next to photographs AA journalist took on the night of the coup.
