The exhibition of shirts with prayers, inspired by the shirts with talismans worn by Ottoman sultans and princes, has been opened in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

The exhibition, held by Yunus Emre Institute at Shibuya Cultural Center's Exhibition Hall, contains 30 works prepared by calligrapher Dr. Mehmet Vanlıoğlu, gild artist Ayşe Vanlıoğlu and a working group of 15 people.

Ambassador of Turkey to Tokyo Hasan Murat Mercan opened the exhibition and noted that they were glad to see the precious works on display in Japan.

Shibuya Municipality Culture Director Mr. Kenya Sato indicated that they took pride in hosting such a significant exhibition at their cultural center and they believed that this would make a great contribution to the friendship between Turkey and Japan as part of the Turkey Culture Year festivities.

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Shirts with Prayers," calligrapher Dr. Mehmet Vanlıoğlu extended his thanks to Ambassador of Turkey to Tokyo Hasan Murat Mercan, Yunus Emre Institute, which hosted the exhibition, and Shibuya Municipality. Vanlıoğlu indicated that the prayer used in the shirts was Qasida Burda, a poem written about Prophet Muhammad, and noted that new exhibitions will be held elsewhere.

Pointing out that she has been working on the art of gilding for more than 20 years and raised many students, Ayşe Vanlıoğlu stated that the exhibition also contains the works prepared by the students. "At the opening ceremony, we have hosted our Japanese friends, Japanese student groups and other people. We have promoted our art and exhibition. We have adopted it as our duty to transfer these values to the world's youth," Vanlıoğlu said.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until July 30, 2019 and contains various workshops.
