Spotlight on “Turkish Language and Education in Türkiye” in Alexandria Event

An introductory program titled “Turkish Language and Education in Türkiye” was organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Cairo, with the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Alexandria as the host.

The event was attended by Melih Kerimoğlu, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Alexandria, Emin Boyraz, Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Cairo, alongside students and faculty members from the Department of Turkology at Alexandria University.

During the program, Yunus Emre Institute’s Turkish language teaching initiatives and the Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS) were presented, along with details on educational prospects in Türkiye and scholarships provided to international students by institutions such as the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Diyanet Foundation, and Development Bank.

In his address at the program’s inauguration, Emin Boyraz, Coordinator of the Institute, highlighted the growing significance of Turkish among global languages, articulating the following sentiments:

“Contrary to Turkish departments established in foreign universities, Egyptian universities boast nearly 20 Turkish departments. We persist in our efforts, both in Cairo and throughout Egypt, to fulfill our duty in response to this considerable interest. Alexandria holds a special significance for us. Today, we have gathered to inform you about education and training opportunities in Türkiye.”

Consul General Melih Kerimoğlu described the work of Yunus Emre Institute in Egypt as “quite pleasing” and stated that the Institute has succeeded in reaching everyone who wants to learn Turkish worldwide through its online Turkish teaching activities.

In the concluding part of his speech, Consul General Kerimoğlu expressed his wish for the establishment of a representative office of the Yunus Emre Institute in Alexandria.

Since its inception in 2010, the Yunus Emre Institute in Cairo has introduced Turkish language and culture to 50 thousand individuals. Through its various projects, the Institute continues to promote Türkiye, Turkish culture, and art to broad audiences in Egypt.
