Türkan Şoray Wind in Baku

Şoray visited Baku to attend the premiere of the film she directed, accompanied by her daughter Yağmur Ünal also featured in the film.

Directed by famous actress Türkan Şoray and produced by her daughter Yağmur Ünal, the premiere of film “Don't Look Far” was held in Baqu State University on 10 December 2015. Türkan Şoray was warmly welcomed in the premiere organized with Baku Yunus Emre Enstitüsü's contributions.

Students showed great interest to Şoray and greeted her at university gate with flowers. Students swarmed the gate, and accompanied the actress all the way to the conference hall with applauses. University Rector Prof. Dr. Abel Meherremov stated in his speech that they are proud to be hosting Şoray and it is a historic day for the university. Meherremov noted that they welcomed with respect and hosted presidents and Nobel-winning scientists before, however Şoray's was an extraordinary and unprecented welcome in the university. Following his speech, Meherremov gave Şoray the golden “Heydar Aliyev Medal” on behalf of the university. Meherremov presented Şoray with a plaque featuring a monitor with fragments from her films, and her daughter Yağmur Ünal with a silver commemorative medal again on behalf of the university. Actress Türkan Şoray made a speech. She expressed that the interest shown deeply moved her and her feelings cannot be put into words. Şoray said she is overjoyed and shed tears of happiness, and thanked the youth and university administrators. Şoray said “Azerbaijani girls are very beautiful, they all look like me,” and audience cheered on the joke.

Played the lead role in 220 films until today, Türkan Şoray said "Arım Balım Peteğim (My Bee My Honey My Honeycomb)", "Selvi Boylum Ay Yazmalım (Tall with a Red Kerchief)" and "Dila Hanım (Lady Dila)" are some of her favorites. Şoray received a standing ovation that lasted for minutes after her speech and had a difficult time leaving the conference hall due to the crowd. Some of the students who got an autograph and had a photo taken with the actress, were exhilirated. Şoray's bodyguards made a way for her among the crowd with difficulty and students saw Şoray off to her car with applause. 

"Don't Look Far"

Film was inspired by actual events that took place in Turkey, however characters and the story are fictitious. Film humorously depicts the chain of events as a casino in city center is legally forced to move to a small town. Audience sees the story through the eyes of a 9 year old who questions life, adulthood, the concepts of good and bad. The tragicomic story emerged from crossing worlds of very different people, both saddens and makes one laugh.

Directed by Türkan Şoray and produced by Vadi Film, the screenplay of the film was written by Onur Ünlü. Film features actors Mustafa Uğurlu, Fırat Tanış, Mehtap Bayri, Ekin Türkmen, Kaan Urgancıoğlu, Özden Serkan Şenalp, Sevda Erginci, Yağmur Ünal, Goncagül Sunar, Aslı Samat, Esra Ergün, Elif Atakan, Pınar Göktaş, and Emirhan Oktay.
