Products registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) by giving "geographical indication" will be promoted abroad through the Yunus Emre Institute (YEI) and foreign representatives, thereby increasing their export potential and increasing their added value.

A cooperation protocol on the subject was signed between TÜRKPATENT and Yunus Emre Institute on 21 June 2022, at a ceremony held at the Institute.

In his speech at the ceremony, TÜRKPATENT Deputy Chairman Cemil Başpınar said that the signed protocol would contribute to the promotion of Turkey's registered geographical indication products at the international level.

Pointing out that the products in question were products that create high added value for Turkey, Başpınar said, "We have 1,139 registered products with geographical indications. We have 8 products registered by the European Union (EU), that is, at the international level. YEI puts forth very successful works to promote Turkey and Turkish art in the world. Geographical indications will also provide important inputs in terms of Turkish cuisine and gastronomy. Therefore, we attach importance to this cooperation, and we will make every contribution to carry out joint activities. We do not want these signatures to remain on paper. After 3 months, we will follow up and re-evaluate what kind of gains we have achieved."

"MORE VALUABLE EXPORTS WILL BE MADE"

Yunus Emre Institute President Şeref Ateş stated that the Institute is an institution that introduces Turkey to the world and establishes a bond between Turkish people and people of the world.

Emphasizing that the correct promotion was of great importance for foreign countries to trust Turkey, Ateş expressed that it was very valuable to move forward with TÜRKPATENT, which protects the country's branding ideas with the patent method.

Prof. Dr. Ateş noted that the promotion of products that reflect the extraordinary richness of the regions in the world would increase exports and said:

"With the agreement, we will include value-added to our relations with other countries. Not a certain number of exports, but more valuable exports will be made. We will carry the beautiful values of Turkey to the world with TÜRKPATENT, with our 65 centers and hundreds of staff around the world. We will realize these as part of festivals and events. In addition, in the training sets, we have prepared, we will introduce the products either by shooting films in the digital environment, by narrating them in the form of physical materials, and by placing products in the stories."
