Breeze of Turkish Music in Rijeka

In cooperation with Zagreb Yunus Emre Institute and Rijeka Croatian-Turkish Association, a special program, hosted by Rijeka Islamic Cultural Cente, was organized in which Turkish music works were performed. In the program held on 17 July 2023, artist Arslanbek Sultanbekov conquered the hearts of music lovers from Rijeka with the songs he sang accompanied by the traditional Turkish instrument dombra.

 

Making the opening speech of the program, Zagreb Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Fuat Korkmaz stated that many events were organized to promote Türkiye's cultural heritage together with the Croatian - Turkish Association of Rijeka and stated that the concert held will contribute to the strengthening of Turkish and Croatian friendship.

 

Referring to the event "2nd Turkish Day in Darda" organized by Zagreb Yunus Emre Institute and Dola Rural Tourism Development Association, under the auspices of the Zagreb Embassy,  Coordinator Korkmaz  said in his speech that the day before the concert, artist Sultanbekov's songs brought together important tunes of traditional Turkish music, especially works like "Dombra", "I'm on a Long and Narrow Road" (Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım), "Osman Bey", "Oh Beautiful Crimea" (Ey Güzel Qırım) and “Nogay Nights” (Nogay Keşeler), in two important cities in the east and west of Croatia, without a break with Croatian music lovers.

 

Rijeka Croatian-Turkish Association President Vedran Obucina conveyed his thanks to Zagreb Yunus Emre Institute for promoting Turkish culture throughout Croatia, and stated that a special concert will be organized for the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Türkiye, in addition to the exhibition and conference activities planned to be held in Rijeka Square next month with the support of the Institute. 

 

Association President Obucina stated that Arslanbek is a very important artist known in Türkiye and said that he performed important works from the Caucasus to the Balkans and gave concerts, especially in keeping the traditional Turkish music tradition alive.

 

The concert, which won the admiration of music lovers, ended with a group photoshoot.
