Future Iraqi Turkologists Study at Karabük University

The students attending the Arbil Turkology Summer School, organized at Karabük University with support from Yunus Emre Institute, improve their Turkish while discovering Turkey's historical and national assets.

20 prospective Turkologists who have been to Turkey for the first time in their lives not only attend academic courses and seminars in their fields, but also take part in social, cultural and artistic events and sightseeing tours in order to know the Turkish culture, history, arts, traditions and customs more closely.

Within the scope of the program that started on July 1, 20 students from  the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) , have discovered Turkey's natural and historical assets in Bulak Mencilis Cave in Safranbolu, the Castle of Amasra, Saklı Cennet Taş Değirmen, and Safranbolu's Historical Old Bazaar and observed the cultural texture in the Historical Kuşkayası, the Castle of Amasra, Kemere Bridge, Breakwater and Direkli Kaya in Amasra, and watched Tavşan Adası and Boztepe Adası from the board.

In Karadeniz Ereğli district, in the province of Zonguldak, having a coastal strip of 80 kilometers, the students enjoyed the natural beauties and scenery and were informed about the contribution of the people Karadeniz Ereğli to the Turkish War of Independence at Gazi Alemdar Ship Museum.

In the program enriched with workshops designed to help participants to enjoy a hands-on approach to learn more about Turkish culture, the participants have gained experience also in Turkish handicrafts. The prospective Turkologists will leave our country following the closing ceremony to be held on July 29, 2019.
