Opening of the “Sephardic Exhibition” Consisting of the Works of Turkish Artists in Germany

Yunus Emre Institute continues to support artists in different regions of the world and organize activities that bring artists together and create an environment for cultural interaction.

Under the auspices of the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Frankfurt, Yunus Emre Institute opened the exhibition themed "Sephardic: On the Trail of a Multicultural Heritage".

 

The exhibition, which was held in the historic Frankfurt City Hall on June 1, 2023, highlighted the importance of the unity of people from different backgrounds and cultures.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Frankfurt Erdem Tunçer, Mayor of Frankfurt Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Science and Culture of the State of Hesse Ayşe Asar, President of the Frankfurt Provincial General Assembly Hilime Arslaner, Director of the Quincentenial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews Nisya İşman Allovi, Director of the Frankfurt Jewish Museum Prof. Mirjam Wenzel and Photographer İzzet Keribar, as well as important figures from the world of art, politics and business.

The exhibition focused on the refuge of hundreds of thousands of Jews, who were expelled by the Spanish monarchy in 1492, to the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Sultan Beyazit II.

The exhibition presented to German art lovers the artifacts showing how different cultures supported each other and lived in peace and tranquility in the Ottoman lands for 531 years.

The exhibition was curated by Istanbul-born Turkish Sephardic artist Terry Katalan.

The exhibition "Sephardic: On the Trail of a Multicultural Heritage" will be open to visitors until June 14, 2023.
