Yunus Emre Institute’s “Media Meetings” program, designed to bolster Türkiye’s international relations through media collaboration, received extensive coverage not only in Turkish media but also in the Romanian press.

The event, attended by representatives from esteemed Romanian media outlets and organizations, garnered attention from various platforms including Kanal D Romania, UZPR, Radio UZPR, Mangalia News, Ultima Ora, S247, Agerpres, G4 Medya, Main News, Veridica, Contra Atacul Argeşului, Romedia, and Ziarul de Arges.

The relationship between Türkiye and Romania is growing stronger, as evidenced by the economic, political, military and cultural relations between the two countries. In this context, journalists from Romania and Türkiye convened in a special event to exchange insights on how the media can actively contribute to the enhancement of bilateral relations.

Kanal D Haber Anchor and Director Mihai Ghita remarked, “The relations between Türkiye and Romania are exceptionally strong. I believe that as Kanal D Romania, we make significant contributions as well. The broadcasting of Turkish TV series has sparked curiosity and interest in Türkiye among Romanians. I think there is potential to achieve much more, since the two countries are very friendly and have shared values.”

Melih Barut, PhD, Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute Cultural Diplomacy Academy, expressed, “I believe that this civil initiative will further enhance the already strong ties between the two countries in terms of media communication.

The sessions, which delved into strategic relations alongside the influential role of media in bridging the two communities, were attended by officials who underscored that the relations between Romania and Türkiye are stronger than ever.”

Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Turkish Ambassador to Bucharest, said, “Since 2011, we have been strategic partners, NATO allies, neighbors on the Black Sea, and also trade partners. So I believe there is much for us to discuss.”

Nicolae Georgescu, MP and President of the Romanian-Turkish Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, noted, “The media serves as a powerful platform for the easy dissemination of initiatives aimed at enhancing diplomatic, economic, political, and even military relations.”

The program commenced with an address by Mustafa Yıldız, Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Romania, followed by remarks from Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Turkish Ambassador to Bucharest, who provided insights into the relations between the two countries from Türkiye’s standpoint.

 

Nicolae Georgescu, MP and President of the Romanian-Turkish Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, offered insights on the relations between the two countries from the Romanian perspective.

 

At the program featuring seasoned journalists, Yavuz Donat addressed the audience with insights on “The Role of Media in Enhancing Bilateral Relations between Türkiye and Romania”.

 

Madalina Corina Diaconu, Secretary General of the Romanian Association of Professional Journalists, delivered a presentation titled “The Future of Türkiye-Romania Bilateral Relations and the Guiding Role of Media”.

 

Throughout the program, discussions centered on the pivotal role of media entities and professionals in fostering relations between the two nations. Topics ranged from exploring content types that could enhance bilateral ties to establishing effective information exchange mechanisms among media members for accurate public awareness. Additionally, there were deliberations on fostering sustainable cooperation between media entities from both countries.

During the opening of the “Türkiye-Romania Media Meetings” program, Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Turkish Ambassador to Bucharest, emphasized the extensive nature of relations between Türkiye and Romania, noting their significant Euro-Atlantic dimension, and added,

“The relations between Romania and Türkiye are truly comprehensive. After Romania declared its independence, its relations with Türkiye have consistently been positive. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Balkan Treaty. We continue to maintain an ongoing alliance and neighborly relationship along this journey.”

Özgür Kıvanç Altan emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation between Turkish and Romanian media, highlighting the mutual benefits of fostering communication and dialogue in the media sphere between the two countries.

During the program, MP Nicolae Georgescu, President of the Romanian-Turkish Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, encouraged the Turkish media to explore avenues for promoting Romanian tourism. Meanwhile, Madalina Corina Diaconu, Secretary General of the Romanian Association of Professional Journalists, underscored the necessity for broader cooperation among journalists from both countries.

The “Türkiye-Romania Media Meetings” program, organized by Yunus Emre Institute, saw participation from representatives of media organizations in both Türkiye and Romania, as well as delegates from the Romanian Academy Bratianu Institute.
