Evliya Çelebi’s “Jerusalem Travel Book” Book Launched in Jerusalem

With the support of Jerusalem Yunus Emre Institute, Evliya Çelebi's "Jerusalem Travel Book" was translated into Arabic 350 years after it was written.

Evliya Çelebi's Jerusalem Travel Book, written in 1672, was introduced to Arab book lovers for the first time by Palestinian journalist, writer and publisher Khalil al-Aseli with the support of the Jerusalem Yunus Emre Institute.

The event on December 22, 2022, which was hosted by the Institute to promote the Jerusalem Travel Book translated into Arabic, was attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Jerusalem Ambassador Ahmet Rıza Demirer, Al-Aqsa Mosque Imam Sheikh Ikrime Sabri, publisher Khalil al-Aseli, Jerusalem Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Reha Ermumcu and guests from Turkey and Jerusalem.

In his opening remarks at the event, Ermumcu shared information about Evliya Çelebi’s 10-volume travel books in which he wrote about his love of traveling and places he has traveled for 51 years.

Ermumcu stated: "As Yunus Emre Institute, we are pleased that the Jerusalem Travel Book of the world-famous traveler Evliya Çelebi has been translated into Arabic after 350 years." He emphasized that the information written by the 17th century traveler Evliya Çelebi about Jerusalem is still relevant today.

Palestinian publisher Aseli, Director of the Jerusalem-based publishing house Bab al-Amud, which published the book, expressed his gratitude towards the Institute and his happiness that the launch event of this book took place in an Ottoman building.
