"Commitment Hasan" Film Screening in Toronto

Yunus Emre Institute, with Turkish Cultural Centers all over the world, started its activities in Canada with a film screening.

Prominent Turkish film director Semih Kaplanoğlu’s latest film Commitment Hasan was shown as part of the international program of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) on July 6, 2022. The screening took place in the historical Distillery District, one of the most important event venues in Toronto. The screening took place in a marvellous open-air setting thanks to the organization of ICFF.

The event took place with the support of the Yunus Emre Institute under the auspices of  Turkish Consulate General in Toronto. Tickets for the event were sold out two days before the screening. Turkish food companies based in Toronto offered delicious Turkish tastes to the film audience.

Some 20 films from different countries will be shown as part of the international program of the Festival.

IT WON THE BEST FILM AWARD FROM TOKYO FILM FESTIVAL

Directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu and, starring Umut Karadağ, Filiz Bozok, Gökhan Azlağ and Ayşe Günyüz Demirci, Commitment: Hasan was selected Turkey's Oscar nominee. Making his living from his father's orchard and field, Hasan tries to get rid of the electricity pole to be planted in the middle of his field while going on a soul searching journey into his past before his impending pilgrimage to Mecca with his wife. Semih Kaplanoğlu, who won the Golden Bear in 2010 in Berlinale for his movie Honey and the Best Film Award in Tokyo Film Festival with Grain in 2017, had the world premiere of the Commitment: Hasan in the Un Certain Regard section of the 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
